What To Know Before Getting A Wireless Home Security System
By Isabel
Nowadays one can never really be sure of one's safety. Out of our homes it seems that peril is always waiting. Yet, just as great dangers can appear even though we are in the comfort of our home. So, what can we do about it? One of the many options aside from being cautious is a home security camera system.

For those who has seen the old movie by Al Pacino, "SCARFACE ", you may remember the system Al Pacino had at his mansion which was what he referred to as kept him "sleeping safe in the night." With the advances of technology, we now have the realistic option of having this kind of system installed in our household for our very own safety.

The primary advantage of having a home security camera system is that it is easier to install than the wired ones and it runs by using battery powered sensors. Another advantage is that they can be moved easily from one location to another since being means more mobility. And since it is more mobile it can be hidden in places where it can't be seen thus making it more hard for culprits to know that there is a system in place.

Sounds good? Well despite all those advantages like anything else it has it is limitations. Most products out there that are wireless; wifi Internet, phones and similar gadgets all heavily rely on the signal or reception they are getting. Thus, the video/audio transmission is limited within the prescribed transmission range. In addition, the frequences of radio or other networking devices could affect the signal of your system's audio and video.

However, you can always purchase a more powerful system with greater transmission - but of course, like everything else, it

is more expensive. Since it is your safety at risk though, you may want to compromise on that. Another thing to know when purchasing a home security camera system is to determine if it is PAL, NTSC, or SECAM, which are the three main video standards from different parts of the world. PAL is the most common standard and is in widespread use around the world, NTSC on the other hand is commonly used in North America and Japan while SECAM is used in France, Greece, Eastern Europe, Russia and Africa. What is intriguing is that SECAM cannot play PAL in full color while PAL can do so in a SECAM. So, in most cases PAL would be the way to go - but consult your local dealer in your part of the world. They will know.

Another thing to take into consideration is the kind of lens you are purchasing for your camera. This is similar to choosing an SLR camera where you decided on the maximum shutter speed or for a digital camera the number of pixels. However, since this is for security purposes what is advisable to consider is the monitoring distance. Since this piece of device will be installed at your home, you can make an approximation of the distance where you want to put it. So basically the ideal thing to use if you are unsure the approximate distance is to purchase is to use varifocal lens, these are lens that can zoom in or out with just some minor adjustments.

Therefore, with all that taken to consideration, most of us are fortunate that devices like these are available for our use in the modern world. But remember - precaution is still the best remedy.
